Rallye VR6 8 Posted December 8, 2010 Jaaaako lijep Corrado.

Timing chain recently done/ charger rebuild recently done (with proof) or the car is instantly worth $800- $1000 less. “G60” cars without the actual charger also apply to this rule. 2. The car is worth less than the sum of its parts, period. 3. In spite of rule 2, the car is not worth a fortune in parts, so sales pitches like “the engine alone is worth that much” are likely false. 4. “That grinding when you shift is normal for these cars” may unfortunately be true, but you should still run away from that particular car. This goes for pretty much any claim that states "that is just a normal Corrado issue." Also watch out for "you just don't know how to drive it correctly, there is a special way you have to drive it." 5. Expect to spend at least the purchase price of the car, averaging $2000, on repairs, maintenance, and upgrades within 1 year. Expect a similar amount every 2 to 3 years following the first year of ownership [see rules 6 and 7 for more details]. 6. [Rule 5 assumes] You are mechanically inclined and are willing to make (repairing) this car one of your primary free time activities [if this does not apply to you, see rule 7]. 7. Never buy a Corrado unless you have a mechanic whom you trust implicitly and specifically attests to having first-hand experience repairing Corrados. [if you are to use said mechanic, double the estimate in rule 5]. 8. Do not buy one of these cars as a primary daily driver. 9. Do not buy one of these cars from a kid or someone who has not kept it in top shape. If you do, you will probably be purchasing what are called “molested Corrados” in the Corrado circle and are likely to have major defects that were ignored in favor of tacky cosmetic or questionable performance upgrades. Don’t be blinded by how “cool” the car is or how many “upgrades” it has and mind these rules. It will seem much less “cool” if it ends up on jack stands for 6 months in your driveway or you end up having to take out a loan to pay your mechanic. [since creating this rule, it has been mentioned that there are "kids" in existance who have not destroyed Corrados for the buyer, no personal insult was intended] 10. Research these cars and their stereotypical problems on sites like http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/ or Vwvortex. You should go into your purchase being an amateur expert for fear of being a professional-grade fool. Rules for owning a Corrado 1. Never think about how much you are spending, have spent, or will spend on these cars. If you think about it like an accountant, you will want to sell it. If you cannot follow this rule, sell the car now. 2. Get a Bentley manual and actually use it. So many times, the simplest problem can be avoided by browsing a section in the Bentley. In addition, cruise sites like VWvortex for assistance from other experienced Corrado owners/ amateur mechanics/ experts. 3. Fix the things that are wrong with the car, then the things that will be wrong with it soon. After driving a while in this state, then start with performance modifications. 4. Beer, coffee, and junk food will be your friends who will give you comfort while owning/ working on Corrado(s). Keep a stash handy (especially of alcohol) for those times when you are waiting for the tow truck or are regretting your Corrado purchase. 5. These are not Hondas, don’t make them look like they are and don't expect to drive (and neglect) them as if they were Hondas. 6. Carry jumper cables, duct tape, and basic tools. You will need them. 7. (For G60) replace the cog belt every 1-2 years. Replace with wide or superwide for longevity. The following rules apply only to those who do their own work on their Corrado 7. Blame everything on the PO or just the entire country of Germany 8. Buy gloves, possibly use them. 9. Replace the stupid round hex key bolts. 10. Never use the factory jack without fully acknowledging that your peril is more than possible. 11. Get AAA Top things to replace or upgrade (remember, after car is already running correctly), G60 biased, no particular order. 1. Motor mounts/ transmission mounts 2. Supercharger rebuild/ upgraded pulley, belt, boring, ISV reroute, chip 3. Install VR6 strut bearings, hybrid control arm bushings 4. Euro headlights, relayed 5. Oil Cooler or lower temp fan switch and thermostat 6. Grounding kit, replace battery cables, alternator wire, adjustable voltage regulator 7. Replace motorized seatbelts with euro/ Canadian belts 8. Skid plate 9. Boost gauge, Oil pressure gauge, volt meter (for added style points, put it in the cubby or DIN). 10. Coilovers or a sport spring/ shock combo (Bilstein/ Koni, cup kit, etc.) 11. (If you can afford it) LSD (limited slip differential) or new synthetic Redline or Amsoil gear lube 12. Passat moonroof 13. Replace AKTIV stereo system with standard aftermarket system 14. Girling 60 calipers 15. Clear front turn signals
